Overview
The 2008 X3 from the makers of the Ultimate Driving Machine gets the only feature that was not standard for all these years on the X3 – an all-wheel-drive configuration. The other changes for this model in 2008 include a more powerful engine and improved fuel economy.
Powertrain and Performance
The 2008 BMW X3 is powered by a mighty 260 hp six-cylinder, 3.0-liter I-6 engine that delivers 225 lb-ft. of toque. Despite having an engine of this configuration, the vehicle delivers a decent mileage of 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. This is a definite improvement in comparison to last year’s model. The engine has a 6-speed STEPTRONIC automatic and auto-manual transmission with overdrive. The xDrive enables 100 percent of the engine torque to drive on either axle, as the situation demands. Add to this the Dynamic Stability Control, which gives the vehicle great stability in virtually any driving condition, and you have a great drive that comes with terrific handling.
Styling
| Wheels get a standard size of 17 inches, although 18 and 19-inchers are optional. On the inside, one gets a car that is ideal for a five-member family. The dashboard has well-finished wood, but standard leather upholstery is the most strikingly attractive feature of the interior. The navigation system is optional.

Safety
The X3 comes with a head protection system, which offers complete protection from collisions of a fairly severe intensity. Standard features also include active head restraints, which minimize neck injuries.
